Four kinds of kamma (4)
The Buddha's words

“Monks, these are four kinds of kamma that I have declared after realizing and directly knowing them myself. What are the four? There is, monks, kamma that is dark with dark results; there is, monks, kamma that is bright with bright results; there is, monks, kamma that is both dark and bright with both dark and bright results; there is, monks, kamma that is neither dark nor bright, with neither dark nor bright results, conducive to the destruction of kamma.
“And what, monks, is kamma that is dark with dark results? Here, bhikkhus, someone has deprived their mother of life, deprived their father of life, deprived an Arahant of life, with malicious intent caused the Tathāgata's blood to flow, or caused a schism in the Saṅgha. This, bhikkhus, is called dark kamma with dark results.
“And what, bhikkhus, is bright kamma with bright results? Here, bhikkhus, someone abstains from the destruction of life, abstains from taking what is not given, abstains from sexual misconduct, abstains from false speech, abstains from slanderous speech, abstains from harsh speech, abstains from idle chatter, is not covetous, has a mind free from ill will, and has right view. This, bhikkhus, is called bright kamma with bright results.
“And what, bhikkhus, is dark and bright kamma with dark and bright results? Here, bhikkhus, someone performs bodily volitional formations that are both harmful and harmless… This, bhikkhus, is called dark and bright kamma with dark and bright results.
“And what, bhikkhus, is kamma that is neither dark nor bright, with neither dark nor bright results, leading to the exhaustion of kamma? Concerning this, bhikkhus, that kamma which is dark with dark results… This, bhikkhus, is called kamma that is neither dark nor bright, with neither dark nor bright results, leading to the exhaustion of kamma. These, bhikkhus, are the four kinds of kamma declared by me after realizing and directly knowing them for myself.”
